Traveling Seminar of Brazilian Youth Movements Tours in other countries... Brazil holds a place in the imaginations of many. The name evokes images of rainforests, beautiful beaches, carnival, and capoeira. However, today, the country is also home to some of the world’s most interesting and exciting social movements. Urban youth are mobilizing to fight drug trafficking and corruption, street artists use music to spread messages of peace, and the country's social movements inspire the world as models for community empowerment and social justice. The Global Youth Action Network (GYAN) is now offering traveling seminars on Brazilian youth activism for young activists, academics, philanthropists, or anyone interested in learning more about the participation of youth in social change. These trips are an excellent opportunity to share experiences, understand cultural and political diversity, and to make the distance between the global North and South a little smaller. GYAN is organizing programs in two regions at this time... The Southeast:
The Northeast:
On each seminar we will visit the headquarters and project sites of many diverse youth organizations, learn about their work, and connect with young people themselves to talk about activism from the local to the global level. GYAN trip leaders will provide translation, facilitate dialogue, and supply background and supplementary information to put the work of the organizations in its historical and global context. |
