We are excited to announce our new web site and newsletter design, as well as the release of our 2005 Annual Report!
We hope you will find these new formats easier to read and more helpful in keeping you informed - not only of our work, but of news, resources, information and emerging opportunities in youth movements to build a better world.

GYAN Partners with the UN World Food Programme
GYAN has recently partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to organize Walk the World activities around the world on May 21, 2006. Walk the World is a global annual event to raise the awareness and the funds needed to help end child hunger. GYAN will provide financial support to support activities in 10 countries: Tunisia, Philippines, Taiwan, Armenia, Austria, Argentina, Grenada, Mexico, Uruguay and Bulgaria. If your organization is interested in leading Walk the World activities (especially in the above-mentioned countries), please e-mail Luis Davila-Ortega.
GYAN Receives Grant from W.K.Kellogg Foundation
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has generously provided a grant in the amount of US50,000 for the Local Jam - NYC project. The Local Jam grounds our work by connecting and nurturing youth movements at the municpal level. The project includes a local mapping oforganizations, monthly gatherings, retreats for organizers and on-going facilitation for collaborative projects that emerge. This is GYAN's first grant from the Kellogg Foundation, which is known for supporting projects with strong potential for scale.

U.S. Dept. of Peace Action Request
Legislation to establish a U.S. Department of Peace was re-introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives and into the U.S. Senate. The Peace Alliance, campaigning for the U.S. Department of Peace, needs your support to make this bill law -- by calling, faxing and/or emailing your representative and also by spreading the word. The primary function of a United States Department of Peace will be to research, articulate and facilitate non-violent solutions to domestic and international conflict. UNGASS Youth Summit : Preceding the 2006 UNGASS +5 Review Meeting at the UN Secretariat in New York

The Declaration of Commitment recognizes the specific vulnerability of young people to HIV and AIDS. Half of all new HIV infections occur in youth ages 15 through 24. To reverse the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, young people must be involved! Day One of the Youth Summit will be filled with comprehensive education and skills-building training on advocacy, media and on the UNGASS Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the UN process. On Day Two, through an interactive and focused dialogue, youth participants will develop and discuss youth demands at UNGASS to ensure a youth voice on HIV/AIDS is heard. The Oxfam America CHANGE Initiative is now accepting student applications for the 2006-2007 academic year. The CHANGE Initiative aims to develop capable and confident young leaders, who are active agents for positive social change. Students must have an interest in issues such as the international impact of mining, Fair Trade Coffee, global hunger, and international trade, and be willing to carry out a campaign on their campus and in their community.
