1. What does it mean to be a member of the GYAN?
As a member of GYAN your organization becomes part of a community of like-minded organizations and gains access to a vast number of resources and opportunities. GYAN members are expected to actively take part in and contribute to the work and development of the Network. There is no membership fee.

2. Who can become a member of GYAN?
Any organization that is youth-led, youth-serving or youth-friendly and which does not promote hatred or violence can become a member of GYAN. For-profit agencies are not eligible. If you are an individual interested in joining the network, please sign up as a member of TakingITGlobal.

3. What are the responsibilities of member organizations?
The responsibilities of GYAN members include: staying in regular communication with GYAN staff and other members; ensuring that GYAN has complete, current and accurate contact information for your organization, including a focal point; receiving and redistributing, to the extent possible, news, information and resources shared by GYAN; contributing to any survey, policy inquiry, consultation or other participation process organized by GYAN; participating in GYAN programs and Network elections, including for board positions, approval of the member charter, and organizational positions on issues.

4. What levels of membership are available in GYAN?
Two levels of membership, voting and non-voting, are currently being created and will be determined by an executive staff review of the purpose and mission of the organization, its structure and its indicated desired level of membership. Voting members will have a bigger impact on the development of GYAN, but are also expected to contribute more to the work carried out by GYAN.

5. What are the grounds for removal?
Membership may be revoked if an organization: ceases to meet any of the criteria for members; acts in a manner inconsistent with the principles of the Network; misrepresents the Network and/or its members in any way; contributes to, supports or takes part in any act of violence; uses, without permission, any copyrighted materials belonging to GYAN or any partner agency; misuses any funds that may have been provided by GYAN or its partners; derives a profit-making scheme from other members or attempts to secure funds through any effort other than legitimate requests for donations.

6. Why should our organization become a member of GYAN?
As a member of GYAN, your organization:
- becomes part of a global community of thousands of like-minded organizations committed to social change
- gets access to tools and resources on TakingITGlobal that can help your organization to plan, promote, implement, and evaluate your events and projects
- is given exclusive access to many opportunities, such as potential funding, media visibility, participation in policy processes and attendance at high-level conferences, forums, etc.
- is invited to participate in processes at the United Nations, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization and other global institutions where opportunities arise

7. How does our organization become a member of GYAN?
To sign up as a member of GYAN, simply fill out a short form and survey about your organization on www.takingitglobal.org/joingyan. As soon as your application is reviewed, you will receive an email confirming the status of your organization's membership. Once your organization is accepted and you have become a Listing Manager for the entry in the on-line database, you can start utilizing the extensive web-based tools offered through our partnership with TakingITGlobal, and you will receive the GYAN Membership Package via post. You must visit http://manage.takingitglobal.org to confirm your membership, claim become a Listing Manager, and able to start publishing news, events, and other information about your organization on-line.

8. How do I terminate our membership?
You can terminate your membership in GYAN by simply sending your request via post, email or facsimile on your organization's letterhead or similar document to GYAN Headquarters, stating your reason. Your feedback on what may have not worked will help us to grow and improve in the future. Please allow 2 weeks to process this request. Your organization will continue to be listed in the public directory of organizations on our partner TakingITGlobal web site, a separate request for which must be made directly to TakingITGlobal if you wish also for that listing to be removed. |
