France worked with various NGOs in Moscow in launching "Thursday
Night Gatherings," and building interest in launching GYAN -
Russia |
GYAN - France is pleased to announce its initiatives to build relationships
and partnerships with NGOs and civil society in Russia and Eastern Europe.
Such relationships are necessary both for project coordination and implementation,
as well as inclusiveness of all of Europe in such projects as the Youth
Participation Initiative, which should be launched January 2005 with support
from the Council of Europe.
Galina Bodrenkova, of the Russian Volunteer Center of IAVE, and Elena
A. Zakharova, of Sozidanie, will advise GYAN-Russia and future gatherings
of youth leaders. They have worked closely with GYAN International in
implementing Global Youth Service Day for Russia, a successful annual
event which drew over 300,000 participants in 2004 alone.

support of TakingITGlobal-Russia and "Healthy Children - Healthy
Planet".
Financial support was provided by "Sozidanie." |
| Over thirty participants split up into
4 working groups: Russian civil society, defining Russian identity,
environmental questions in Russia, and youth service. Groups were
moderated by Galina Bodrekova, Irina Chernenkaya, Boris Baranov, and
Elena Zakharova, respectively. |
