Partnerships in Africa - Project: Streetchildren in Dakar

Children from the poorest regions of Senegal and its neighboring countries, including Mali, are often sent to be taken care of by religious leaders and to receive a Koranic education.

Yet the housing conditions of the children are often below par.
Children's access to adequate health care is simply lacking.

Here, a child infected with malaria lies in a dirt patch behind his housing.
The housing conditions are often overcrowded, unsanitary, and in debilitating condition.

GYAN - France is committed towards building partnerships with actors in civil society in Africa and aiding them in their projects. One such partnership is with the G1000, an NGO in Dakar, Senegal, that GYAN will be partnering with throughout 2004 - 2005 to aid streetchildren in Dakar.

GYAN hopes to react these conditions through mobilizing youth action to improve the conditions of the talibés of Dakar.

You can join the GYAN-1000, a club of donators that will contribute 1,50€ per month to help give these children an adequate meal per day, through our partners in Dakar, the G-1000.

GYAN similarly plans on organizing a team of volunteers to Dakar in summer of 2005 to aid in the construction of sustainable housing, and to tutor the talibés in reading and writing. For information on volunteering or making a donation to make this project possible, email france@youthlink.org.
