This organization was evaluated by a study circle, established in the end of year 2000. After the continuation of this circle for two years, it was intensively felt to organize and this circle of youth was structured in December 2002. It was in the vision in the process of organizing that youth must be liberated from those conditions by which it is being exploited since past and one can build personality in healthy way. NYO is not following any of the political, government and non-government organizations. It depends on the participation of youth. OUR MISSION NationalYouth Organizatoin is focusing & looking for the development of following four aspects / objectives. 1- Awareness The word ""Awareness"" carries a government vast range of meanings. Today it is compulsory to be aware. Man tries to find out that who is he ? firstly and what are his destinations and problemss as well.To learn all alone he is in the need to understand his surroundings and he has to comprehend these surroundings in the national and international content. 3-Peace The concept of peace appears when we recall the wars and its distructions in ehich millions of people were killed and developement of centuries were destructed in days. Today the youth is entering in the practical life and has to protect this development and gloryas well as next generation from these harmful circumstances. So in the present to avoid these circumstances it is necessary to preach and project peace. According to NYO, without adopting international peace it is impossible to fight against in justice and all contradictional issues should be solved through dialogues. 2-Democracy Democracy is as necessary for a country as the air for a man. There must be freedom on the educational, social & econimical levels for the development of a country or that the creative & pure abilities can be exposed structrize our system. Without it we will remain ignorant about, what he interests to create and to declare his point of view. NYO does favour to the freedom of expression of youth on thedomestic, national & international levels. 4-Culture Thouhg today one culture is imposed gradually on the entire world but it is containing two types. The culture of producers (Workers, Artisans, Farmers) & non-producers (Capitalist). As Pakistan is a country of hard workers so that popular and strong culture is of producers. All current facilities and utilities are due to this class. By these creators the culture of peace and truth is projected. Internatinal capitalist culture is removing ours which is based onlocal roots. Youth have to protect this culture for retaining thier idenity. NYO is in the favour of the culture which is based on peace, truth and fight aganist injustice. OUR WORKING STYLE Seminars & Workshops NYO arranges seminars & workshops on different isues, experties, facilities and discuss current, national, international, socail, political and econimical affairs. Research Research is a marketing section of NYO. In this section the research on the social, educational and psychological problems have been done and the reports are presented to find the solution. Study Circle NYO conducts weekly discussions in the homes of its members where they do participate actively, This activity polishes thier qualities. Camps Our home organization arranges two camps annually, one is in the summer and other is in the spring to provide the chance to think and define the way of action against the social bugs in complete isolation. Camps are very supportive and effective tool to promote discipline and leadership. We have conducted several camps. Sports Events NYO also organizes the sports activites, its sports program have a special appeal and attraction for young people. Through these events we enhance healthy activities. Film Corner Film corner is organized by NYO on weekly basis where films on various issues like commercial, art &documentry are watched. Later a recession is held to discuss about the message of film. i am chairman of National youth Organization. The organisation develops its action in a supporting spirit founded in a constitution guarantee of associative, what is one of the basic principles for the country\'s development. So in prosecuting its objectives and within its position in the Mozambican society the organisation track in all its action, by the following principles basic: a) Creation of opportunities that guarantee the participation as a promotion more higher of youth in community work, b) Increased value and development of capacity and the rote of youth and similar organisations as mean of influencing the reduction of community socio economic problems; c) Increased value of community participation in all initiatives and socio economic activities since the identification phase till the monitoring and evaluation phase. VISION The GADC perspectivates a Mozambique in progress and in changing, an integrated socio economic development within the community whereby the efforts of civil society and the different actors and specially, the energy and willingness of the youth are the power to potenciate options of development that contribute primarily for the absolute poverty eradication within the rural community. MISSION Considering this vision the GADC is compromised with the promotion of initiative and activities for the community development counting with the intervention of various actors in the socio economic life of Mozambique in general and for woman and youth in particular. At this scope the GADC seeks to contribute continually for the integrated and sustainable development of rural communities. · Incentivating a open dialogue, debates and reflection on socio economic development within rural communities with more emphases in all local youth; · Betting in the increased value and capacity development and role of the youth, youth association and similar organisation in the reduction of socio economic problem that concerns the community. · Implementing activities with impact in the socio economic development of rural community and advocacy of policies and development strategies with relation to it; · Participating in the creation of capacity building for the building for the community local organisation, · Opening partnership with different actors in the socio economic of rural community, · Developing the volunteer service in Mozambique. Our structures: 1. General Assembly table 2. Fiscal Council 3. Management Committee · Executive Secretary · Technical assistant (Finances) · Coordination officer for TB,HIV and Malaria Programme · Coordination officer for Human Rights and Peace Programme · Administrative Assistant Main Programs Human Rights Training Initiative The Human rights training is key tool to implement its promotion. However, there is very little public discussion. The Initiative will promotes the need for observance of the human rights in general, giving it greater incidence to the rights of the most vulnerable (children, disabled, widows, prisoners, HIV/AIDS carriers, elderly, etc). There are few efforts from organizations for civil society engages in human rights public discussions. There may be some space, however, to start this through the Human Rights organizations existent, as a start, although the group would want to go beyond trainings and advocating on human rights. There is very little oversight and participation even among line ministries. Peace Building Concern being addressed: to have a civil society deeply involved on the preservation of peace and to bring awareness to the civil society how precious is peace starting with youth as our target. Debates on peace building issues, are the principal step to discuss at an open platform and sharing and exchanging ideas within the youths and civil society in general, each debate is going to have a topic like how to preserve peace, what is the role of the civil society as far as preserving peace, how peace can be broken, how the political parties can iron out their differences and work for nation building, etc. " Other Iremos contactar os nossos potenciais financiadores R36 welcomekit on Wire none Gostaria de participar. Among other objectives, NTJYP will; i) organise youth consultations in Nigeria on the on-going Economic Partrnership Agreement (EPAs) between EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States. ii) collect one million signatures on our ""NO TO EPA"" Youth Campaign form iii) assemble Nigerian youth positions on EPA and use this as a lobby tools before and during the WTO Ministerial in Hong Kong iv) issue communique, position papers, media briefing on youth perspectives to trade negotiations v) design a strategy document on how to reach out to and mobilize our peers in the EU countries to join and support the campaign vi) catalyse similar youth initiatives in other parts of ACP states that have not yet initiated campaigns such as this So far and owing to our interest and motivation in trade justice, YPI has represented youth and their concerns and is emergingly serving as focal point and youth representative for all trade policy related issues in Nigeria. She has by this represented youth in all key government or civil society led trade policy issues, some of which are; 1. EU-Government-Civil Society Tripartite meeting on particpation of Non State Actors in the EPA Roadmap in Nigeria, organised by CERCOFONA on behalf of the EC. It took place at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt between 11th & 13th October, 2005. 2) National Harmonisation Workshop on Civil Society\'s Position on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) organised by Nigeria Trade Network (NTN), National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), in partnership with Oxfam (NOVIB) Netherlands - August 2005. 3) Parliamentary Scrutiny of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the WTO Round of Talks, organised by Nigeria Trade Network (NTN), National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), National Planning Commission, Office of the Chief Economic Adviser and the House of Representatives Committe on External Affairs, in partnership with Oxfam (NOVIB) Netherlands - July 2005, Jos & Abuja 4) Zonal Consultation on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the European Union (EU) and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, organised by Nigeria Trade Network (NTN), National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), in partnership with Oxfam (NOVIB) Netherlands - July 2005, Owerri It is worth mentioning that YPI is part of the Oxfam International Youth Parliament (OIYP) Trade Justice & WTO Advocacy Project. This project, initiated by the OIYP and supported by Oxfam Australia provides targeted training in trade campaigning and human rights advocacy to a core group of young people and supports participants to implement action plans on trade issues relevant to their home countries and beyond. The project focuses on the impact of trade agreements on agricultural capacities of youth in rural communities, as well as access to medicines under the WTO Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS). YPI is also a member of the Make Poverty History Campaign Team of OIYP. More on me now: I am also attending the Earth Charter + 5 event in Nov in Armsterdam, where I am booked to do a workshop on ""Trade Justice Campaign by Youth: Imperative for an Intra-generational North-South Partnership for Advocacy on the on-going (Trade-based) Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and the African, Caribbean & Pacific (ACP) States"". During my stay in Armsterdam; I will attend the Mass Lobby on trade justice billed for 21st November 2005 I will also embark on visitation to schools, NOVIB, European Center for Development Policy Management, CONCORD in Brussels, Youth for Development & Cooperation, AIESEC etc and speak on local television stations in Armsterdam etc, in relation to EPA. I am also a member of the ""Make Poverty History"" Campaign Coalition of the Oxfam International Youth Parliament (OIYP). And also a member of the select Project Team on WTO Advocacy & Trade Justice Promotions, facilitated by OIYP. Before getting neck-deep involved with trade justice work, I was serving as the National Focal Point for the (step-down implementation of) the African Environment Outlook for Youth (AEO-for-Youth) Project, which was being managed by the Department of Early Warning & Assessment (DEWA), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in partnership with the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN). I was also the Project Coordinator of the Nigerian-Cameroun Youth Task Force on Sustainable Inter-country Peace & Development, which worked across the political divide to pursue and build between Nigeria and Cameroun during the disagreement between the two countries, owing to disagreements on the ownership of the oil-rich Bakassi Peninnsula. I have served on several committees to restore peace and mediate in conflicts between youths, Chiefs and foreign expatriates working in/with oil companies in oil-rich Niger delta in Nigeria. I have a few more things to add. During the Tools for Peace International conference, which held in Sweden in Nov 2004, I co-facilitated and co-chaired all five youth working sessions of conference, with Atefeh Sadeghi of Institute of Interreligious Dialogue in Iran. I also singularly chaired the Working Group of the conference on ""Supporting Youth Networks for International Peace building"". I was also elected to coordinate all post-conference youth activities. At the moment, I am handling the Report Section on Trade & Aid for the African Youth Report on World Plan of Action on Youth I served as Member, Nigerian Report Development Committee Towards An African Youth Report for the International Youth Forum on Population, Prague, Netherlands 1999 Currently, I am Nigeria\'s representative on the Earth Charter Youth Initiative and also Coordinator, Earth Charter Youth Initiative, Nigeria I have recently been appointed to serve as Member of the International Advisory Council (IAC) established to oversee the promotion and implementation of the policy document \'youth-led development: a framework for action\', which is an outcome of the already concluded third world youth congress, Scotland 2005. As time flies and depending on what I comne to see on the ground there in Brazil, I will get more specific on what I will require. A room large enough to contain thirty will be just fine." "I will want to tell stories of what democracy has been so far to me as a young leader; a young person; and a growing adult. Our organisation was the organiser of the 1st Independent National Young People\'s Conference on Democracy in Nigeria. It gave us a very good peep into what the young think, feel and are persuaded of when it comes to the world\'s largest black democracy. AQnd it will be wonderful to share these ideas in such a forum. Besides, before hosting that conference, we had carried out quite a number of seminars on democracy in Nigeria. This also provided us with wonderful thinking patterns of youth as it concerns democracy as a concept and Nigeria as a country. Our fundraising experience for the purpose of this conference will be a very wonderful resource to be shared during the open discussion forum. I am sure that participants will really benefit immensely from these local experiences." "Yes, I would need a booth at the Democracy Fair. I will not need extra privacy for meetings I will not need to lock up materials at night. I will not need someone to attend the table even during the plenary sessions" I will send you their emails when I confirm from them all. FletterChecked "I am motivated and interested to participate in this conference because of my current work on Trade Justice with specific reference to the on-going negotiated Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA) between the EU and African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States. I believe that youth in developing countries participating in the EPA negotiations can become more visible in their advocacy for youth-friendly trade negotiations, especially in countries where agriculture is the mainstay and where youths contribute quite significantly to it. This can be achieved with increased north-south partnership between ACP youths and their European counterparts for fairer trade advocacy and trade justice promotions. And this conference offers a converging point for youths from all over the world and presents very unique opportunity for strategic networking and partnership enhancement. I can fit in very well here - to faciliate a process for insights to be developed into how the north-south relationships can be modelled to benefit both Europe and other developing countries, especially Africa. Outcome of the workshop will inform a lot about future north-south youth strategizing on EPA-based advocacy activities. In bolstering and scalling up on local trade policy and EPA-related advocacy activities and hoping to explore the fact that young people have the unique capacity to reach across the false boundaries of nationality, race and economic status to affirm our common humanity and work towards a shared vision, I am very motivated to be part of the Advisory Council. It is with this, that I can further strategise for capacity building and knowledge deepening through facilitating and advising on vibrant intra-generational alliances for global-local networking, experience and knowledge sharing. This underscores the drive for facilitation of this workshop. I graduated a college diploma in Business Management from the professional college "" Institut Supérieur d\'Etudes Commerciales et Financières (ISECOF/Bukavu). I have been working for a not for profit youth organization as the Executive Director since 1998. In addition to my native "" Mashi "", I also speak English, French, Kiswahili, Lingala, kinyarwanda and Kirundi fluently. I am also learning Spanish and Portuguese. I got involved into community development leadership since 1998 just one year after the first war of liberation took place in the eastern part of my country. I witnessed the first hand the way my country, especially my community were managed. And also due to social injustice and unprecedented poverty people in my community were facing, and consequently, the number of killed people, number of survivors of wars that have been dehumanized by rapes, sexual violence, mutilations, tortures, kidnapping, etc.; I have contemplated and decided to found an organization whose mission statement is to empower disadvantaged youth from a low-income and poorest areas (both urban and rural), specifically young women who are victims of sexual violence and rapes, displaced young people, demilitarized and war child, and HIV/AIDS orphans to reach their education and career goals by providing them a long-term programme of business training, grants as start up capital, mentoring and technical assistance during their business start up phase. And the promotion of Democracy and youth participation into decision making process remain one of my priorities, as well. Hopefully, I agree with those who say youth can and/or help make a difference in their communities owing to qualities attributed to them such as resourcefullness, risk-taking, flexibility, zest, enthusiasm, initiative, energy, courage, willingness, etc to try new approches once trained. I love to travel, musics, sports, and cinema. I have also worked as an international facilitator of the first consultation meeting of Youth Employment Summit (YES Burundi) Campaign in March 2005 in Bujumbura/Burundi. I have already visited at least ten countries worldwide, namely Brazil (Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro), Egypt (Cairo and Alexandria), Kenya (Nairobi and Mombasa), Rwanda (all the provinces), Burundi (all the provinces), Tanzania (Dar-esalaam, Mwanza, and Kigoma), Sudan (carthoum), Uganda (Kampala and Mbarara), Italy (Torino), etc. " Other 20 welcomekit Wire none - - - - - FletterChecked I believe it will provide me more best practices, strategies and methods to improve my work when I am back home. Lamin Town Banjul Serrekunda - Lamin 220 THE GAMBIA GAMBIA "THIS IS A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR INSTITUTION AS COPIED FROM OUR WEB PAGE WORK BOOK. OTHER THINGS ARE STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION, WE WORK AND DO ALL OUR WORKS VIA THE MEDIA. INTRODUCTION: In the history of our dear nation the Gambia, film production has been neglected in the past and the large population had developed serious attention to international made home movies rather than the locally produced ones. This has resulted to poor marketing of Gambian made home movies and has affected both the producers and the talented artist from growing to greater heights. In 2001, the Gambia progressive Youths Association founded the Gam – Progressive Pictures, a charitable media arts organization dedicated in: * Promoting social issues important to the Gambian public with educational and Entertainment films * Training/promote and exposing talented youths and the elderly in film and music Productions * Create avenues for self employment amongst the literate, illiterates, drop outs, and the Elderly considering the alarming rate of unemployment in our society today * To promote new and creative film making techniques * Also fostering independent film makers around the nation and linking other producers around the world to develop interest in the developing Gambia film industry. Successfully, Gam – Progressive Pictures, since its establishment in 2001 had train and involved hundreds of talented Gambian youths and the elderly in theatre arts production and had also featured them in several production aired on the only National TV, The Gambia Radio and Television Service (GRTS), and also films aired in M Net TV South Africa, like the Banjul Corps, Produced by Vanashia Production ltd. Not to boost, we have produced so far the most famous actors and actress in our dear country the Gambia over this period of years. The film unit also won an award as at the St Theresa Balloon Drama Festival Banjul, in 2002. The Association head office is presently located in Lamin Town, Kombo North Western Division, P O Box 50 Banjul The Gambia. Considering our dear nation the Gambia as a developing nation with poor resource, high level of unemployment among the youths, GPYA, has been able to use this avenue to create employment to the youths and also expose the talented ones among them. GPYA actors and actress has featured in several production in other media company in the Gambia and our staffs has also participated as production assistants, by providing the media companies with talented casts, locations, props/costumes, scripts etc. Below is the list of eight executives’ members namely: EXECUTIVE MEMBERS NAMES PRESIDENT MR. FATOU BINTOU DEMBA (Actress/camera work) LEGAL ADVISER BARR, NELSON OMEKANIA ONYEKA Few of the above listed play important role in the film production unit and also work with other units within the organisation. GPYA, at today have over 200 volunteers fully registered around the country. GPYA, areas of media production is mainly based on health related issues, like HIV/AIDS, TEENAGE PREGNANCY, TB, ABORTION, CHILD ABUSE, DRUG ABUSE AND EARLY/FORCEFULL MARRIAGE ALSO FAMILY MATTERS AS IT IS COMMON HERE IN THE GAMBIA ETC. Our recent Research indicates that, the society pay more attention to moving pictures sensitisation and it is a well known fact that young people are particularly responsive to peer pressure and it is our belief that positive pressure portrayed in films can have an important effect in shaping their attitudes. As we can see, HIV/AIDS is a pandemic of global concern and one that requires adequate and appropriate responses from every community if its advanc e is to be checked and reserved; and to over come the high level of illiteracy and ignorance of this epidemic in the rural area, preventive education inform of moving pictures or stage dramas done in local languages stands to be a sole effective vaccine against HIV/Aids. Base on the fact that the language of entertainment is acceptable and understandable to the entire population, to this effect, GPYA recently, with the help of the National Aids Secretariat, (NAS) and the Gambia Family Planning Association Multi Media Unit, (GFPA/GMU) produced 46 Mini Dramas of 5 – 10 Minutes each on HIV/AIDS, topics from Mode of transmission, prevention, stigma / discrimination. This series runs on the National TV every week for nation wide sensitisation purposes. Really, preventive education via the media may well be the effective vaccine that resource poor developing countries needs to arrest the merciless march of the HIV/Aids pandemic So far, Gam Progressive Pictures had produced a 16 Episode film of 20 minutes each, wi th title; GROWING TROUBLES, a story writing by the association script writer / Producer Mr. Victor O. Akuegbuonwu. This film is expected to run as a TV series although it is made in one of the major local languages spoken in the Gambia (THE MADINKA LANGUA GE). Successfully also for us, sometimes last year, we got the help of an independent film producer from the United Kingdom, Mr. Anthony Latham of (AgriMedia Service UK) whom assisted our institution in filming and digitalizing part of our first ever produced cultural film Titled; “KADDY KEBBEH” a typical true life story of a Gambian Girl who was murdered by wicked fellows. Although also, this film was shot in Madinka Local Language, but we intend to sub title it in English to suite international market. This film was also writing by Mr. Victor O A, shot by professional producers and acted by the GPYA famous actors/actress, soon, the editing of this estimated 90 minutes feature film will commence and we hope to have it in the market or have it as a TV series GPYA PARTINERS: Gam - Progressive Youths Association is presently working with almost all the dramas groups in the country and other youth association and also international/Local NGOs. Today, Civitan is an International organization and it's headquarter is located in Birmingham, Alabama. Civitan has spread across 20 states in USA and about 35 countries in the world. The aim of this organization is to primarily build good citizenship. This goal is achieved through - Teaching youth to be responsible citizens - Helping people with development disabilities - Loyal support to our government in peace and in war - The curbing of crime - Conservation of natural resources - and promotion of national and international goodwill Mission Statement "" To build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities"". The motto of this organization is ""Builders of Good Citizenship"" 1.1.2: Civitan Sierra Leone Civitan Sierra Leone was formed in 1994 with the determination to achieve the above international objectives. However we have focused ourselves to promoting good governance, helping people with developmental disabilities, and promotion of natural resource management. Civitan Sierra Leone comprises the Senior and Junior category of membership. The senior membership has an executive committee, which carries out the day-to-day management of the organization. The executive is headed by a president who is elected at a bi-annual general meeting. Other executive positions include the Secretary General, Treasurer, programme manager and committee chairs. The senior membership supervises the activities of the junior members who are more or less youth of the school going age. 2.0 Past and Present Activities CIVITAN SIERRA LEONE-PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE 1.1: Background Information 1.1.1 Civitan International March 17, 1917, was no ordinary day . . . nor were the people involved ordinary men. They were business and professional leaders concerned, not only about their community, but about world events. They were dreamers, too, wanting to make a difference in their world. They believed their actions could help build a better world. They had been meeting as a civic club which was slanted just a little too much toward personal gain to suit these men. They gave up the charter they had purchased and set out to make a club suitable to them. Gregory Johnston was elected as the first president of the 2.1: Main areas of focus Since its inception, Civitan Sierra Leone has endeavor to work across the country especially in schools, vocational institutes, as well as displaced and refugee camps in the country. In pursuit of our international objectives, and paying attention to the origin of the International club formed after the First World War, Civitan Sierra Leone share common problems to the initiation of the international chapter. During and after the war, we have identified the following issues that need urgent attention; - Gender - Good Governance - Youth empowerment - Empowerment for disabled persons - Natural resource management We have been able to achieve these objectives through the support of various organizations and partners. Some of our main partners over the years and programme of support is given below in the table Organization Project Project Dates Support Special Court For Sierra Leone Outreach Section Sensitization on the activities of the Special Court through awareness Raising in the western Area. 3 June 2004 - 4 July 2004 Le 3, 000,000 Council of Churches in Sierra Leone Dressing the Disabled From 1st April 2001-30th April 2001 Le10,500,000 Civitan International Outreach sensitization on the Rights of the Girl Children, To Access Education. November 2003 Le 3,000,000 Conservation Society of Sierra Leone Environment Education for School Children in the western Area January 2001 Le18,500,000 2.1.1 Gender Civitan all over the world remain proud as the first service organization to adopt females in our fold and we are committed in promoting gender issues at all levels. At the national level, we have been pursuing this issue as reflected in our membership composition. 2.1.2: Good Governance Civitan believed in democratic processes and we have been actively engaged in promoting it in all aspect of our activities. Over the years of our operation, we have trained at least 200 of our members in various skills of group management and leadership. We have practically demonstrated this by encouraging our young members to hold offices of trust in their various clubs and to manage their activities with little supervision from the senior membership. Some of us have just emerged as leaders from the Junior Civitan level to occupy position at the senior level. We have no doubt that this type of training will build a good cadre of leadership, which the country now yearns for. Furthermore, our members were trained in electioneering process and actively took part in both national and local elections as observers and monitors. This in itself is clear evidence of our organization's commitment in promoting civic rights of our members and building good citizenship In the area of public awareness, the organization hosted a number of sensitization workshops/meetings for its members which include-: Workshop on the Convention on the Rights of the Child (their right and responsibilities) HIV/Aids sensitization, to name but a few. 2.1.3: Disabilities Over the years also, we have been engaged in identifying and supporting people with developmental disabilities. One notable achievement in this direction was the distribution of used clothing to the Blind and the visually impaired pupils at the Milton Margai School for the Blind and War Affected Children at Connaught Hospital. Civitan has regularly joined other national and international organizations in commemorating the international day of the disabled held on every December 3. In 2004 celebration, the activities were climaxed with a day seminar on the right of disabled in the society. 2.1.4: Natural Resource management: Civitan has over the years been involved in natural resources management especially on education and awareness raising programme. We have held training and video Programmes on different environmental issues of both global and national concerns for civitan school clubs in the Western Area. We also planted 2000 fast growing trees provided by the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone in 2001. 3.1 Future areas of Interest: 3.1.1 Good Governance: The youth, constitute a large number of our electorate but they have little or no knowledge about their civic role in the democratic process. From our previous experience the youth are misused by politicians during the election period and are not given the opportunity to play active role in national politics. To strengthen the growing democratic process in our country and to make a meaningful one, there is every need to under take educational campaigns targeting the youth in particular on their role in the new democratic dispensation The trauma our youths have undergone can probably be healed through their engagement in positive development and income generating activities. 3.1.2 Disabilities: To a developing nation whose government is preoccupied with a lot of issues especially rebuilding the damage infrastructure etc, disabilities issues are a least priority. Civitan has over the years recognized this group of people as the most neglected in the society. We therefore hope to take up a challenge of identifying mechanisms to assist this group of people. As a result of our previous engagement with group, we have come to realize that a thorough investigation work needs to be done to ascertain the status and categories of disabilities across the country. The first step in this direction is to partner with other interested organizations. This will be follow by scientific surveys, sensitization campaigns through interactive forums, commemoration of world events on disabled people (e.g World disabled day-3rd December every year) etc. 3.1.3 Youth empowerment We intend to address youth empowerment beyond job creation. The empowerment process will include vital knowledge on their civic rights, duties and obligation. It will also involve health safety education on preventive measure against the common killer diseases like HIV/AIDS, Cholera and malaria. 4.1 Collaboration: Through our engagement in the implementation of some programmers, Civitan have realized that development work cannot be done in isolation. Over the years, therefore, we have collaborated with a number of development organizations and institutions in implementing programmers that fall under the ambit of our objectives. We will continue to identify and work with credible organization to pursue our objectives. At the moment we are in discussion with the heads of a number of institutions both within and outside the country for productive partnership. E desde 2004 que tenho vindo a colaborar com Coalition for Peace in Africa da qual sou Formador de Transformacao de Conflitos:COPA was formed in 1995/96 when a group of concerned Africans met in Nairobi, Kenya to exchange their insights and experiences on a pressing issue facing Africans: prevention of the escalation of violent conflict in Africa. They were convinced that they needed to offer continual practical support to people and organizations on the ground, that are faced with volatile and potentially violent conflict situations, recognising conflict as a major contributor to Africa’s deplorable state of poverty and underdevelopment, for it is extremely difficult to carry out meaningful development under situations of violent conflict and socio-political instability. This instability and the numerous civil wars in many African countries inflict terrible loss of life and social and economic damage to these countries, as well as undermining cross border relations. Often enormous resources are diverted from development initiatives to maintain large armies and other security forces, while natural resources are systematically looted by fighting groups to finance these wars, causing irreversible damage to the economy of the country and reversing any development that may have occurred. The practitioners that came together in Nairobi found that there were no appropriate support networks for them to access and work together as peace practitioners. Initial membership of the network came from different parts of Africa mainly ""alumni"" of Responding to Conflict (RTC) Working with Conflict Course offered once or twice a year in Birmingham, England. Later on membership expanded to include other individuals and organizations in Africa. A secretariat was set up in Johannesburg, South Africa, later moving to Nairobi, Kenya and housed by the Peace and Development Network. In Southern Africa COPA is housed by the ACTION Support Centre in Johannesburg South Africa. The ACTION Support Centre is the base from which the work of ACTION; the global network of organisations and individuals that work with conflict, is coordinated. PROGRAMME STRATEGIES • To offer ongoing practical support to people and organizations who are faced with volatile and potentially violent situations through consultancies, skills training, mutual support, exchange of experiences, and trauma workshops. • To build the skills and confidence of members and partners so that they can be effective in their communities and become a resource to each other (e.g. skills training & sharing, thematic workshops, exchange of experiences. empowerment.) • To raise the profile of peace work and practitioners by recording, collecting and disseminating positive experiences and learning, and to undertake research and training that lays the foundation for the formation of an African Peace Institute (e.g. research, lobbying, publications and newsletters.) • To facilitate learning and sharing between practitioners and policy-makers at all levels of society and specifically across regional borders through, for example, high-level skill development & support, lobbying, linking and facilitating cross border learning. • To support initiatives that enhance development, justice and reconciliation in Africa through giving solidarity, linking and consultancies. COPA PROGRAMMES AND ACTIVITIES • Publishing regular news brief and occasional papers, case studies and articles so that people can share what they learn in their work. • Organising Conflict Transformation Courses and Learning Workshops with continent-wide participation. • Hosting national, regional and Africa-wide consultations where people actively working with conflict in Africa can share experiences and at the same time raise the profile of conflict issues in Africa. • Encouraging regional and international work on conflict by connecting individuals and organizations with similar interests. • Connecting people with skills and experience in different aspects of conflict to those who want to expand their capacity to address conflict. • Recommending experienced and skilled consultants based in Africa. • Assisting grassroots voices to influence policymakers at all levels. My organization name is Punjab Lok Sujag. We are the first organization in Punjab, Pakistan which has established a direct link of language & culture with the civil society development agenda. 58 years history of Pakistan is the history of military rule & dictatorship. Pakistan is directly ruled by military Junta for 39 years. The military Junta is constantly depoliticizing the society in a very systematic way. In Pakistan the word ""politics"" is synonymous with corruption, inefficiency, and bad governance. All bilateral and multilateral donors are supporting military rule in Pakistan as this serve their “Corporate Interest” in best way. USA support to Military Junta is very open. Sujag is directly involved with people and our work base is rural where 76 % population lives and we are strongly willing to develop international youth links to understand global issues. This networking is also very necessary for the volunteerism of our as we are a membership based organization. Sujag is ambitious to develop rural cooperative where the farmers can get the better price of their produce which is now under direct threat from the Corporate Market. Our rural families would face Food security” if nothing is done. By coming to brazil Sujag is planning to link with international cooperative movement so we can bargain for the landless slam farmers in the Punjab villages. Sujag is interested to link the issue of democracy, human rights and equal opportunity with cooperative and address the day to day issues of the farmers who are constantly crushing under the highly centralized form of military government. This would politicized the ordinary masses and also make the society POLITICAL. Sujag badly need to link itself with global democratic youth movement as our cadre comes from this class. organization profile is as under. Punjab Lok Sujag: Punjab Lok Sujag is a not for profit, democratic, independent and membership based registered organization. Sujag works for the language and cultural rights, public health issues, information technology and rural development through cooperatives by empowering people through lobbing, advocacy and networking. Sujag has no discrimination on the bases of race, gender, and faith. Sujag is of the firm opinion that change can not be imposed from out side and through legal and administrative measure alone rather it can come only as a result of voluntary involvement of communities in designing and implementing social, administrative, political and economical interventions meant to change the existing system. Historically Punjab Lok Sujag is spin off of an alternative and Political theatre group Punjab Lok Rahs formed in 1986. Though Sujag has been in existence for quite some time, it became a legal entity in 1996. It is registered under Societies Act of 1860. Vision & Mission: Punjab Lok Sujag is striving to demonstrate that path of economic, social and cultural development which lies in alternative models & approaches for the Peoples’-Centered and Self- Reliant Progress. Aims & Objectives: • To Creating awareness and popularization of Punjabi language in Punjab by organizing Language & cultural festivals. • To eradicate poverty among rural communities through holistic sustainable economic development model so they have control over their lives as well as resources. • To ensure equitable access to livelihood resources for all. • To support actively the development of Rural Social Movements and to strengthen the rural initiatives and voices. • To develop alternative economic development paradigm through cooperatives, consumer activism and collective people acts. • To introduce the role of mother language and culture in lobbing advocacy and networking. • To develop a Transliteration tool for Punjabi Language which translate Gurmukhi into Sahmukhi script and vice versa. • To develop peoples centered peace initiatives through cultural exchange between the people of India and Pakistan. Nature of Work: Sujag’s activities are many and diverse in nature. Dominant among these are the following: • Sujag is involved in a Unicef and Church World Service supported public health initiative in districts of Okara, Pakpattan and Kasur. It is running an awareness campaign about iodine deficiency disorders and the importance of iodine supplementation of common salt. The project also includes setting up of processing and distribution channels for iodized salt. The organization has experimented with communication strategy and uses theatre and mobile puppets to motivate the population. • Lok Sujag is the lead organizer of a big cultural festival titled ‘Punjab Lok Boli Mela’ or Punjab Mother Language Festival. The first was organized at Depalpur, District Okara in 2004 and the second at another small town Haveli Lakha in January 2005. Sujag intends to make it an annual event. This is a gathering of artists, writers and intellectuals from across the Punjab. They come together to share and discuss with each other issues of common interest and perform before and interact with a larger audience. Groups from Indian Punjab also participate in this activity. The activity is aimed at building peace and tolerance between the two Punjabs (Indian and Pakistani) through interaction and meaningful cultural exchanges. • Making modern technologies specially IT work for the betterment of the marginalized and under privileged sections of society is another of Sujag’s objectives. It is being pursued through two projects. The organization is developing a database of all items published in leading English dailies of the country. The completely searchable database is an important research and advocacy resource having a focus on social issues. • The other project is development of an IT tool to help transliterate the two scripts being used to write Punjabi language – Gurmukhi by Indian Punjabis and Shahmukhi by Pakistani Punjabis. Lok Sujag has worked on this EU Asia IT&C sponsored project in partnership with Preston College, Manchester University, UK and Greek Federation of Unions of Ministry of Communication and Transport. • Sujag is running a project to develop gender profiles of rural districts and bring the gender issues on the active agendas of the district governments. The project is supported by the European Union under its program European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights. • Sujag is leading an initiative to improve economic well being of poor and small dairy farmers. The main strategy here is two fold, development of cooperative like structures for dairy farmers and educating and sensitizing policy makers and opinion makers about the plight and problems of small farmers of the country. Working Partners: Sujag over the years working with different national and international partners like UNDP, Unicef, EU, Manchester University, London, Consumer International Regional Office for Asia Pasific, Malaysia, Summer Institute of Language, USA, Punjabi Academy New Delhi, Asia Foundation, Hennrich Boll Foundation, CHIP, The Network for Consumer Protection, SAP (PK) and Church World Services (CWS), Pakistan. This organisation evolved out of months of discussions and consultations among a group of young people who initially met as a discussion group call the Caucus. The Caucus was a group where young professionals research issues of national importance and present it to the wider group for discussion. It was from these discussions it was recognized that all participants held a common view that is, for Guyana to truly develop and experience its true potential they must be an environment that fosters; good governance, social cohesion, citizen participation, political stability and peace. It was also recognized that for such an environment to be created and nurture a national organisation which truly reflects the rainbow collection of Cultures, religion and ethnicities that make up our country must be put in place.
